Chipper Is Wrong About Citi Field
June 9, 2009
In today’s New York Post, Chipper Jones is quoted lamenting the size of Citi Field. He contends that the field is too large and that it will hurt the home run totals for sluggers David Wright, Carlos Beltran, and Carlos Delgado. Chipper also made a controversial remark that David Wright shares his feelings for the new stadium, ostensibly the reason for his low home run totals in 2009.
Is Chipper right? Should we steer clear of players on the Mets because of an anti-Coors effect, a power outage if you will?
Turns out Chipper is wrong. According to an ESPN analysis of power trends at all the major league ballparks this year, Citi Field is actually a hitters park — 8th best in the majors for home runs — and better than Citizens Bank Park, the notorious bandbox in Philadelphia, and Coors Field. In other words, treat Chipper like former teammate John Rocker and ignore what he says. Wright will come around and Beltran is one of the best and most consistent players in fantasy baseball.
Lidge to the DL
June 9, 2009
Title says it all…Brad Lidge hits the DL with a sprained knee. Not only does that make Ryan Madson owners very very happy, but it means that even though Lidge has converted most of his saves recently, there’s been lingering issues there.
Now we’ll see how long he’s out for…
