Nick Adenhart Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash

April 9, 2009

Angels burgeoning ace starter Nick Adenhart was killed in a hit-and-run car crash after a game, a hospital official said.  Adenhart, at a mere 22 years of age, died after undergoing surgery at University of California, Irvine Medical Center.

Nick Adenhart was one of three people killed in the crash early Thursday after pitching in a loss against the Athletics.  The driver of a minivan ran a red light in Fullerton, California and hit two cars, including one carrying Adenhart. Police Lt. Craig Brower said the minivan driver fled the crash scene but was apprehended by police a short time later.

Having made his 2009 season debut Wednesday night, Adenhart was the Angels’ number three starter. The right-hander earned a spot in the starting rotation on an injury-plagued Angels staff by impressing manager Mike Scioscia late in spring training.

Fantasy Implication: Sadly he should be removed from your roster and replaced promptly. Tragic end to a promising career.

  2. Well done Russ. It still creeps me out that the last thing I did before going to bed last night was write my Shooting From The Hip entry in which I heartily recommended that anybody who owns Adenhart should try to trade him now. Not exactly what I had in mind.

Here is a link to the story if anybody is interested:
